PTZ Shot Director 1.7.0

Major release introducing five new live production modules, Stage Display, rundown export/import, a redesigned workspace, and a first-run setup wizard. This beta includes every update made since 1.6.8.

New modules

PTZ Shot Director now ships with a built-in module system. Five modules are available in 1.7.0:

Scenes (Tab 6)

Group shots from multiple cameras into a named scene. Fire all cameras simultaneously with one click or API call. Designed for churches running multi-camera setups where each scene represents a framing configuration — wide, medium, close-up — applied across the whole room at once.

  • Create named scenes and add camera shots as entries
  • Set per-entry action (Sequence, Go to A, Go to B, Stop) and optional pre-fire delay
  • Fire all cameras in parallel via the UI or POST /api/scenes/{id}/fire
  • Scenes can be targeted by Hotkeys and Show Rundown cues

Hotkeys (Tab 7)

Map keyboard keys to slot or scene triggers. Enable hotkeys mode and fire any configured action from anywhere in the app without reaching for the mouse.

  • 18 assignable keys: F1–F9 and number keys 1–9
  • Each key maps to a slot (page + slot number) or a scene
  • Toggle active/inactive without losing assignments
  • Keys fire in background threads — UI stays responsive
  • Text input fields are never intercepted

Show Rundown (Tab 8)

Build an ordered cue list for your entire service and step through it during the live event. Each cue fires a scene or slot.

  • Create named rundowns (e.g. "Sunday Morning," "Easter Service")
  • Add cues: Call to Worship, Worship Set, Sermon, Closing — each targeting a scene or slot
  • Live operator panel: current cue, on-deck preview, Fire & Advance button
  • Back/Next navigation to jump between cues without firing
  • Space bar fires and advances — no mouse needed during the service
  • Per-cue notes shown in the live panel for operator reminders
  • Current position persists in the database — restart the app mid-service and pick up where you left off
  • Reset to Top clears the pointer to start the rundown over
  • Export rundown to JSON or CSV; import from a saved JSON file

Service Timer (Tab 9)

Countdown and count-up timers for service segments — worship set, sermon, announcements.

  • Create named timers with a configurable duration
  • Choose countdown (counts down to zero) or count-up mode
  • Color-coded clock face: green while running, gold in the last 60 seconds, red when time is up
  • Start, stop, and reset controls in the UI or via API
  • Timer state visible in Stage Display alongside the current rundown cue

Production Notes (Tab 10)

Quick-reference notes board for the production team — camera assignments, service-day reminders, operator instructions.

  • Create multiple named note cards (e.g. "Camera Assignments," "Service Reminders")
  • Rich text editing with markdown-style formatting
  • Active note displayed in Stage Display for easy reference during the service
  • Notes persist across restarts

Stage Display window

Open a secondary window designed for stage monitors, confidence monitors, or a separate operator screen. Shows the current rundown cue, the active service timer, and the current production note in large, readable text.

  • Click Stage Display in the Show Rundown tab to open the window
  • Full-screen toggle with F11 for stage monitors
  • Auto-refreshes every second — always current with no extra steps
  • Works independently of the main app window; can be moved to a second monitor

Dashboard (Home tab)

A new Home tab (Tab 0) gives you a live overview of your production setup before the service starts.

  • Camera health summary with status indicators
  • Quick links to Cameras, Shots, and Slots tabs
  • Storage trigger ring buffer — see the last 10 trigger events with timestamps
  • API activity log for recent requests

Operator Mode

Press F11 to open a fullscreen operator panel on your first layout. Designed for touch screens and secondary monitors during a live service.

  • Fullscreen layout grid with large trigger buttons
  • Keyboard shortcut (F11) opens Operator Mode from anywhere in the app
  • Setting to auto-open Operator Mode on startup

First-run wizard

New installations are guided through setup with a step-by-step wizard.

  • Welcome screen explaining the workflow
  • Add your first camera with connection test
  • Create your first shot
  • Map a slot for external triggering
  • Empty state screens in each tab guide users who haven't set up that section yet

Shots tab redesign

The Shots tab has been redesigned with a two-panel layout for easier navigation and faster workflows.

  • Left panel: shot list with thumbnails for fast visual selection
  • Right panel: shot detail, points, tuning controls
  • Thumbnail grid shows A/B/C point images at a glance
  • Camera filter to view shots for one camera at a time

Design system and UI consistency

All UI colors, spacing, and typography now come from a central design token system, making the interface more consistent across all tabs.

  • Unified color palette: surfaces, borders, text levels, gold accent
  • Consistent card and button styles across Camera, Scenes, Hotkeys, and Rundown tabs
  • Status colors standardized (green/red/gold) for health indicators and fire feedback

macOS Apple Silicon support (beta)

PTZ Shot Director now has an experimental macOS build for Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3).

  • Native arm64 build via PyInstaller + PySide6
  • Packaged as a DMG — drag to Applications and launch
  • Unsigned — Gatekeeper workaround: right-click > Open on first launch
  • Core PTZ control, shots, slots, scenes, hotkeys, and rundown are all functional
  • Joystick support is limited on macOS; full support is planned
